Myanmar is a Southeast Asian country with Naypyidaw as its administrative capital and Yangon as its principal commercial center. Burmese is the official language, and the Myanmar kyat (MMK) is the national currency. The economy is supported by agriculture, natural resources, manufacturing, energy, construction, trade, and services. The Myanmar bonds market includes government Treasury bonds and Treasury bills, while the corporate bond market remains very limited. Government securities are issued through the Central Bank of Myanmar and form the principal component of the domestic fixed-income market. The Myanmar government bond market is primarily connected with government securities issued through the domestic banking and financial system. Secondary-market transactions in government securities can be conducted through securities companies, although market liquidity and accessibility remain limited. The corporate segment is considerably smaller than the government securities segment. Banks, financial institutions, and larger companies represent the main potential issuers, while Myanmar bonds remain affected by the country's political, financial, and economic conditions. For international investors, Myanmar government bonds are associated with substantial political, currency, liquidity, and market-access risks. The domestic securities market remains relatively small and less accessible than those of neighboring Southeast Asian economies.
